Robin Wall Kimmerer is a botanist, professor, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Her writings are full of insights into the natural world - insights gained through the rigors of science, but also through the lens of indigenous cultures. Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, a mother, and a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings — asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass — offer us gifts and lessons, even if we’ve forgotten how to hear their voices.
The book club fee is 30.00USD. You can mail the check to Kirkridge Retreat Center at 2495 Fox Gap Road, Bangor, PA 18013 with the subject line: Book Club or bring it with you to our first discussion. *We encourage you to attend at least 2 of the 3 book discussions.
The book club will be facilitated by Justine Johnson and Pat Mulroy. Justine works at Kirkridge where she aspires to continue the important work of connecting social justice communities to the natural world. Pat is a curious learner, life-long educator, explorer, and creative optimist. She hopes to connect her love of the natural world to her Courage and Renewal® work, and the community.
If you find you enjoy the book club, please join us for a Circle of Trust Retreat: Living in Love with Earth from November 7-10, 2019. This will be a rare opportunity to reflect on your own path of personal ecological renewal through participation within an inter-generational place-based community.
