Community Partners of the Poconos works to promote collaboration on projects that improve the quality of life of Monroe County residents. Current initiatives include the Monroe County Council on Inclusion (MCCI) and the Monroe County PA Strong TimeBank.
MCCI works to build a foundation of respect and understanding that reflects diversity. A key objective of the council has been to promote civic engagement and collaboration. Collaborative activities have included the organization of two unity events attended by numerous Monroe County residents. One of them, Unity Seminar 2012, produced summary recommendations that noted specific ways in which the County might address the educational, employment, and social needs of our growing diverse population. It mentioned, among other issues, the necessity for extended after-school programs to accommodate the needs of commuting parents, and for the appointment of newcomers and new thinkers to available jobs and policy-making committees at all levels of government and the educational system. The Monroe County PA Strong TimeBank recognizes that each person has talents to share, and that the overall community is strengthened when neighbors help one another. For every hour that members help meet the needs of another member, they earn a time credit for the exchange. This time credit can then be redeemed for services from others, and the never-ending cycle of sharing continues. Interested individuals can join the TimeBank at monroepastrong.timebanks.org
